In 17th-century Slovenia, a popular wine blend known as Vipavec - also called Kindermacher (“child maker”) - was widely enjoyed. The wine was made from local Vipava Valley grape varieties: Rebula, Pinela, Zelen, and Klarnica.
Today, the origin of the name Kindermacher is no longer certain. It may have referred either to the wine’s supposed ability to increase the birth rate or to its talent for turning adults into children.
Here you can see one of the few reincarnations of this undeservedly forgotten wine:
White Wine Sveti Martin Tressa White – Vipava Valley, Slovenia
Vinification: Short (2 days) maceration in contact with the skins in a stainless steel container. Maturation: 15 months in 500-liter acacia barrels.
Characteristics: White wine of golden yellow color with light aromas of acacia and ripe apricots. Honey notes go well with a hint of wild herbs. In the mouth, the wine is rich and mineral, with a pleasantly elegant acidity. Long lasting and dynamic aftertaste.
Food pairings: Goes well with all light to medium-aged cheeses, as well as with fish, pasta with vegetables and risotto with seafood. Serving temperature: 12 °C.
